Inspired by the professional dog walkers Jeffrey observed while spending time in New York during the late 1980s, and seeking a more rewarding and active lifestyle, he returned to Melbourne with an idea that was still relatively uncommon at the time. In 1999, All Terrier Motives Dog Walking and Pet Care Services was established in St Kilda, becoming one of Melbourne's pioneering professional dog walking businesses.
Today, in our 28th year of operation, All Terrier Motives continues to provide the same personalised, owner-operated service that has been the foundation of our success since day one. Rather than pursuing growth for its own sake, we intentionally maintain a manageable client base to ensure every dog and owner receives the highest level of care, attention and reliability.

Jeffrey Richards is the founder and principal owner-operator of All Terrier Motives, established in St Kilda in 1999. Jeffrey has enjoyed a lifelong connection with dogs, having grown up with both family pets and working dogs from an early age. His first dog was gifted to him at just three years of age, beginning a lifelong passion for dogs and their care. Since then, dogs have remained an important part of his life, both personally and professionally.
Over more than 27 years operating All Terrier Motives, Jeffrey has worked with dogs of all breeds, ages, temperaments and exercise requirements.
His experience has been built through thousands of hours of hands-on dog handling and by developing long-term relationships with both dogs and their owners throughout Melbourne's inner south and inner east.
Jeffrey believes that every dog is an individual and that successful dog walking is built on understanding each dog's personality, behaviour and specific needs. His approach combines reliability, patience and genuine care, ensuring dogs receive the exercise, companionship and attention they deserve.
Jeffrey is fully insured, holds current first aid qualifications, and references and police checks are available upon request.
Nicholas Beckett has been an integral part of All Terrier Motives for more than 16 years and has built strong relationships with both clients and their dogs throughout that time.
Raised on a farm in rural Victoria, Nicholas grew up surrounded by animals and developed a lifelong appreciation for their care and wellbeing. His experience with animals from an early age, combined with more than a decade and a half of professional dog walking, has given him a calm, confident and intuitive approach when working with dogs of all breeds, ages and personalities.
Nicholas understands the importance of regular exercise, companionship and routine in helping dogs live happy, healthy and balanced lives. He takes pride in providing a reliable and caring service, ensuring that every dog receives individual attention and enjoys a positive experience while in his care.
As a dedicated dog owner himself, Nicholas appreciates the trust clients place in All Terrier Motives. He is the proud owner of Peebles and co-owner of Mickey, both of whom reinforce his passion for dogs and his understanding of the important role they play as family companions.
